How to get rid of commercials on the Roku channel?

Hi All,

I do adore the Roku channel as their taste in shows is pretty good.

Problem: I despise commercials.

Is there a way to rid myself of the commercials?  I am more than willing to pay a reasonable amount for such, if that's what it takes.

  • The Roku Channel is a free service, therefore they run ads. Roku doesn't currently offer a paid ad-free version. No idea if it's under consideration, but for now you have to put up with the ads.

When I watch old retro shows, like "I dream of Jeanie", there can be several commercials not in the original commercial slot as originally intended. Too many and too long.

The original show was already made, so there should me no extra long (up to 5) commercials on a production that already made their bulk load of money back in the 60s/70's. Overhead cost should be minimal.

For 5 dollars a month, I'd pay ROKU channel to not have commercials on retro shows.

If Roku won't let your out of them completly, I'd also go for $2/month to zip/fast forward across them.

I would happily pay as well.   Not only are the commercials the she ones over and over,  they pay super loud!  If I watch roku in the evening I have to keep my hand on the remote mute button to hit it before they commercials wake up my son.  It's ridiculous.   Come on roku, give us a paid option!

Lisako76  If you enable volume leveling on your Roku it will eliminate those issues

Since I can't get rid of commercials is there a way to search for content that doesn't have commercials? Or would this just be the services I paid for before I bought the Roku box?

Tartan  Any free streaming service is going to have commercials. That’s why they are free. The Roku channel, Tubi, Crackle and PlutoTV are all free and All of them have commercials. Hulu is a paid service at five dollars a month and it has commercials. So exactly what are you looking for?

  • We can deal with some commercials, but Roku's overwhelming amount is the porblem. Every five minutes is just insanely intrusive. Especially when is the same damed commercial every time!

Yep. Just this month (March 2023) ads started popping up on the mobile app for me. I don’t mind ads but they appear at the wrong times, in the middle f dialogue or narration about something. I wouldn’t mind paying $4.99 a month or something, like I do with other media like YouTube or Hulu.

  • For some reason, I was able to watch shows without commercials, now they started showing them.

Were you watching on a tablet before and now are watching on a TV?  I don't think I have commercials when I watch on my tablet.

No ma,am, was watching on my Roku Express 4K+. Did a hard reset due to it cutting out then the commercials started.

  • I really wish there was a way to get rid of the ads. My son got the Roku as a birthday gift because he loves retro tv shows but he can’t use the Roku because of scary ads that seem to play every 5 minutes. The ads aren’t even geared appropriately for their audience. Horror movie previews should only be on horror films…not mellow old school tv. So disappointing.

If there's no plan for commercial free programming, I'll move to purchasing TV shows and movies.  I agree the commercials are disturbing.

  • I’m not happy with the choosing of commercials and especially for children. Watching a children’s movie and a commercial about shaving a woman’s **bleep** comes up? What kind of sick people do things like this?

  • It’s not so much commercials but the 4 y to o 5 minutes of a show then 6 to 12 minutes of clips from other shows on that channel!! I didn’t pay $100 for Roku box to look at clips of shows!! May have to get rid of Roku I get better service from a free antenna!’

Funny, bec as a shareholder, Im concerned that they haven't been having commercials on the shows I watch. how are they to make money of they aren't advertising.  or charging for ad free. They definitely need a ad free option.  Rather than giving people tv for free.  Especially as stock price and profits are dropping.
