Trying to make sure I understand a previous post. 

If I subscribe directly to HBO Max through Direct TV/AT&T,I will be able to view it through a Roku device as well.

FYI, If you subscribe to HBO Max through Direct TV or AT&T, that isnt "direct" (that's indirect) - direct means directly from HBO Max.

Regardless, yes, your HBO Max subscription will be usable on the HBO Max app on Roku (or anywhere else).

Yes, my Max access is with my AT&T cellular plan. It works just fine on Roku devices, as well as other streaming platforms. In fact, Max works far better for me on a Roku than it does my Shield.
