Color issues when trying to watch anything

Washed out colors when trying to watch something from any of my apps (Netflix, hulu, prime, etc.). The color is normal for anything else until I play a show or movie. It is a dark red, green, blackish color. Please help

To provide you with an accurate resolution, could you provide us with the details requested by @RokuCarly in the above posts?

Additionally, we recommend performing the below steps to see if you can resolve the issue:

  1. Power-cycle your Roku player: unplug it from the wall power outlet and plug it back in.
  2. Check for updates: Go to Settings > System > Software Update > Check Now
  3. Restart your Roku player: Go to Settings > System > Power (if you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step) > System Restart.

Thanks for sharing this concern with us here at the Roku Community, @KT13.

Would you mind specifying which Roku device this is? Also, if a lot of channels are affected by this display issue, kindly perform a power cycle on your device by unplugging the device from the power source for approximately 60 seconds and plugging it back in. If there is still no luck, kindly perform a factory reset on your device by going to Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Factory Reset. This should fix issues with color distortion and minor display issues. Please be aware that once a factory reset has been performed, you'll need to activate it as though it were a new device.

Agree, It is ONLY when using an APP to watch shows.. My screan is crisp still screen, when images move the color dims and distorts to almost imposed.. My Roku was an x-mas gift in 2018.. Its not that old..

Before we proceed, we'd like to gather further information about this. Please provide us with the following details below:

  • When did you initially notice that this was taking place?
  • Which actions have you taken in the process of troubleshooting to try to fix this? 
  • A photo of the difference between your Home screen and when streaming a certain show would be great.

I have the same issue - it seems worst with UHD content played by any app.

Hi @RokuJanadeeK 

This is a new tv (4 months) and when playing any HDR/UHD content (e.g. on BBC iPlayer) the colour switches to a dull/washed out tone. You can see the colour change in the first moment that the  content starts to play.

I have checked for Roku updates, rebooted the TV and reinstalled BBC iPlayer and other apps.

I have looked at the picture settings including the advanced settings, but the settings cannot correct the colour issue on HDR/HDR content.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, @RustyPane.

Could you clarify if the issue is only persistent on BBC iPlayer? Also, when launching this app, could you try clicking on the star button on your Roku remote to look for additional options under the TV Picture settings? Lastly, would you be able to send us a clip or a photo of the said display issues?
