Who can I talk to to report inappropriate content on Roku?

This isn't on an app but was on the homescreen when my kids were trying to watch cartoons. It appears to be an ad. How can I turn these off? Can I have them age appropriate please? It's like softcore p*rn that Roku is trying to show my kids.

Re: Who can I talk to to report inappropriate content on Roku?

@tdwoop

This is currently a thing that several have brought up. Of the Big Four platforms, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google/Android TV include ads in their menus. Apple TV does not.

None of the platforms have ratings on the ads, so there is no way to filter any ads using the platform options.

Mentioning it here, and tagging @RokuDanny-R , @RokuKariza-D , or @RokuMary-F is probably the best approach, although there's nothing they will be able to do apart from pass the concerns along to those on the back end.

Another option would be to Suggest a feature of ad-ratings and filters. But don't expect any action soon on this. If at all.

Thanks for the context. It's insane to me that these people would market this stuff to little children. Their argument may be that they don't know it's little children watching, I don't believe that, but even if it were true, then what are you thinking sending this stuff out to people?

I may have to check out the Apple TV, thanks for the tip. I'm surprised there hasn't been more press about this...

Tagging  @RokuDanny-R , @RokuKariza-D , or @RokuMary-F

Can I get a response please on a solution, I now see that several users have been complaining about Roku showing inappropriate content to minors via the "ads" for years. I intentionally block ads on my network at the network level to prevent this kind of stuff from targetting the children in my house and you're intentionally circumventing it. It's not just the adult content (which I'm sure runs afoul of several state laws when aimed at children, on the children's theme) but some creepy looking clown etc. Literally what are you thinking? If Roku isn't going to pay attention to this I'm sure there are others that are willing to shine a spotlight on this, there's plenty of reports of it on this forum.

My 4 year old daughter and I were watching the kid's movie “Ozzy” when an ad for ”Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scouts Murders” came on. I am absolutely horrified. I literally covered my daughter’s ears and turned her head to prevent her from seeing it or hearing it.

I’m FURIOUS. An ad about the rape and murder of little girls was shown during a kids movie.

Reading complaints that go back years, it’s apparent that Roku refuses to address the issue. This is unacceptable.

Hi @tdwoop and @Ahreha, we understand how disconcerting it is to have inappropriate ads play in front of our children and we appreciate your patience while we look into this further.

To help us look into this, would you mind sharing the dates and time of day you noticed these ads?

We'll be forwarding your comments to our advertising department for review.

Shame on you Roku for this "solution".  Parents are not just simply displeased with the ads, the ads are kiddie porn. You can't argue that Sex Next Door is anything else and it is completely inappropriate to be on your home screen for kids to view - regardless of the dates and times it was shown. Give parents the ability to filter/remove ads. Too many other options available to stick around for this non sense.

In regards to Diana

Id like to know why you guys sponsor a show where a 5 year old girl sings sexual innuendos, dancing around in make up, and a short skirt with older girls while her brother and friend tries to hide behind the chair and watch like a creep? Why is a little girl singing about “lick my lollipop, it’s sweet” and “his chocolate bar was a fantasy” They’re 5. This is beyond wrong and disgusting. It’s grooming at best. And the parent in the show presents himself as a creep everytime. This is not safe and it’s beyond disgusting, I’m not sure who’s making sure these shows you’re claiming are “child friendly” are actually appropriate for children.

my complaint isn’t about something subjective like a little horror, but literally has to do with grooming children. And the only place I can say something is a forum? That’s insane.

Re: Who can I talk to to report inappropriate content on Roku?

Hi @Karidavis42, and welcome to the Roku Community! Thanks for reaching out to share your concerns about inappropriate content.

We've introduced new features since this thread was posted in 2022 that can help personalize your ad experiences and manage your ad preferences.

If the content is on a partner channel, you'll want to reach out to that partner directly, as we don't control their ads.

If it's on the Roku Channel, and you'd like to raise this to our leadership team, shoot me a PM here and I'll make we raise your concerns.

For other ways to manage your ad experience, see below.

How to change ad preferences

Roku allows you to limit the types of ads shown on your device, by either hiding individual ads or limiting certain ad categories. Learn more here.

How to hide an ad

Certain ad types on the Home Screen can be hidden and replaced with an alternative ad. Learn more here.

Thanks, and again, feel free to reach out directly if you prefer.

Happy Streaming!
