    Future Private Channel Support?

    We maintain a non-certified channel with a 6 digit user count that would be greatly disappointed with the recent communicated change, not to mention our development team. Is there a plan to support private channels such as ours or do we need to start informing our users to look elsewhere for home streaming alternatives?

    Private Channels Ending - What am I supposed to do?

    I wrote and have been using for years a truly private custom channel on my Roku devices. It only streams video from an appliance physically located on my private local network. There is nothing nefarious, embarrassing or illegal about the content, but it also is nobody's business but mine. Literally only myself and two other households in my family use the channel. The video content didn't come from the Internet, has never traversed public networks and never will. I'm only late noticing this policy change about private channels thanks to a nastygram today telling me my "beta channel" will expire in Feb. I don't know anything about the new IDK alternative, but insofar as it doesn't even work on the Roku TVs I've invested in it is a complete non-starter. And I don't know how or if I can make my channel public. It won't function for anybody else without my customized on-premises appliance hosting the content, nor is it intended to. I don't need "the public" finding it, it isn't for them. Certification for publishing involves all kinds of unnecessary nonsense (for me) like deep linking which I don't even know how I could support or pass certification. So what is the answer to keep my own very private channel? Just republish and reinstall it every 3 months as a "beta" channel? What a sorry experience. Why isn't it enough to just limit beta channels to 20 users, why the 120 day expiration? This change is terrible. I'm keeping the ranting portion of my reaction mostly to myself, because I'm sure nobody's cares about my choice words or what I really think. But I don't know why I can't continue to use my literal private property physical hardware that I fully own and paid for in the way that I want to.

    Sunsetting uncertified channels

    Really Roku? This is terrible news and may finally get me to give up Roku development entirely. I can't wait to see the amount of outrage this will cause. How many people are going to lose channels they've been using for years? This IDK is no substitute for uncertified channels. https://blog.roku.com/developer/idk

    Roku non-certified apps, shutting down ‘till March 2022

    Hey people, I need to ask this about non-certified apps. Is it true and how that will affect the adult content apps? Is it possible to develop that kind of app and get certification and have that app on the channel store as an adult app? Thanks in advance.

    URGENT: Unable to add private channels

    Seems like there's an outage with adding private channels. This post claims it was fix but many users are still having issues and are unable to ads private channels to their roku streaming devices for several days. Please advise. https://community.roku.com/t5/Channel-Issues-Questions/Service-Interruption-Channel-Issue-Channel-Install-Error-when-adding-channels/td-p/724577/page/15

    SOLVED: Private channel - tries to update, but fails every time.

    I had a problem with a private channel not updating. I finally figured it out, so I'm updating this post with the resolution just in case it helps someone else out. The only changes made to the private channel were graphic in nature -- splash images, display icons, menu overhang graphics, etc. Turns out, on those display graphics (which shows the channel graphic in the overall ROKU menu -- like a channel store icon) you really need to make sure your graphics are pixel-perfect. Supply a graphic that isn't the EXACT size asked for, and the channel will refuse to update.

    private channel set up

    I successfully created a channel with my streaming videos using Direct Publisher I want the channel to be private. I do not want it listed in any roku directory. I want to be able to control who sees the app, perhaps by sending my client a link or an invitation. How? Thanks!

    Channel Installation Count - Private Channel

    Back in "the day" I used to be able to go to my Developer Dashboard and see, at a glance, how many people installed specific channels I've published, including Private channels. Where did this information go? For the life of me, I can't seem to find "installed" numbers anymore.
