Expand Guest Mode
The current Implementation is not bad, but it lacks some quality of life features I think “hosts” and “guests” could enjoy. Here is some of my thoughts. I know it’s been said but preloading. Having any app downloaded before guest mode should remain on the Home Screen. If the host has like a plex server or similar software they want to allow their guests to utilize on a designated account, the ability for specific apps to either not be signed out, or just auto signed in to a certain account. My view of how this could work is if you sign into an app outside of guest mode, when you sign into guest mode, that app will remain signed in. If a user logs in to their own account, then when guest mode “resets” it logs out of their account, and re-logs into the correct account. I feel that this could really make Roku Guest mode even more powerful and effective for both hosts and guests. Alternatively, if a guest already owns a Roku of their own, then they could sign into guest mode like it’s a new Roku, and sync with their accounts accordingly, then at the end of the “rental period” it can reset and wipe their profile off the Roku device. Either of these suggestions could make Roku a powerhouse and the “no doubt” best place for streaming various streaming platforms.24Views1like1CommentLink & Play content from all Streaming Apps from Roku Channel
While the Roku Channel can organize all my shows and movie in one places and even tell me where to play it, but it CAN'T connect you to the stream app from the Roku Channel app. You have to return to the home page, select the app you want, then find the show and episode you want to play. If Roku just allowed the Roku Channel to open the streaming app directly, it would make it the best app ever across the board. Please make this update so I don't have to get an Apple TV.19Views0likes0CommentsAdd the "JustWatch" app to the app store
The JustWatch app is useful for looking up information about movies and TV. If we had the ability to add the app directly onto our Roku TVs, we'd be able to use our phones to search for content and launch our desired result to our TV from any service we have, including Roku's content. Here's the information they list on their website about how we need to link the app to our TV: https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv I've checked the app store options on my TCL Roku TV and don't see the JustWatch app listed.41Views1like1CommentAllow us to set the default audio volume output for every input/app/source.
Roku should provide us with the ability to edit the default audio output volume for every app/service/input. The goal would be to utilize this new feature to ensure that all output is at a volume comfortable for us, and minimize/eliminate the need to adjust our TV's volume whenever we switch from watching content from provider X to Y. For example, the default audio output from the YouTube app is insanely loud forcing me to manually adjust the volume by 15 when switching between other apps, channels, sources and the YouTube app and reset by volume by 15 when changing to another option. Since this could happen with any given app or TV input the best solution is to ensure that we can go into the settings for each and edit the default audio output volume manually resulting in everyone establishing whatever default volume they desire for each app, subscription, and TV input. Optionally, Roku could try to insist that all content must have the audio output volume set to X so that everything is defaulted to the same volume however I don't believe that Roku can demand this from huge companies like Netflix, Apple, Amazon, etc so it's far better to ensure that we can go into the settings for each app and edit the default audio output volume ourselves as this also future proofs a fix as new services are launched or the parent company decides to tinker with the base install settings over time. Thank you.8Views0likes0CommentsOption to disable search function for kids mode
We have kids mode enabled on a Roku TV in our playroom. I have installed a number of appropriate apps for them, however the kids recently figured out how to use the search function and are playing all kinds of things we find inappropriate. There needs to be a way to lock this function out or PIN protect it.16Views0likes0CommentsAdd support for Image Based Subtitles
Feature request: I'm using Plex to watch media on a 4660X Roku Ultra from late 2018, but turning on subtitles requires media to be transcoded because the subtitles are PGS (image based). Note: I also have an Amazon Firestick 4K from around the same time and it does not have this limitation. I can select either subtitle track from any video and they display properly without transcoding media on my Plex server. I prefer the Roku 100% over the Firestick, so I am really hopeful something can be done with the Roku to begin allowing image based subtitles without the need to transcode them into the video. Update: We purchased an Apple TV 4K 32GB during the Apple Black Friday sale and it doesn't have any issues with subtitles. Looks like we're moving on from Roku since they don't seem to be doing anything about resolving this issue. This makes me sad... I loved my Roku!5.9KViews27likes15Comments
