Add support for Image Based Subtitles
Feature request: I'm using Plex to watch media on a 4660X Roku Ultra from late 2018, but turning on subtitles requires media to be transcoded because the subtitles are PGS (image based). Note: I also have an Amazon Firestick 4K from around the same time and it does not have this limitation. I can select either subtitle track from any video and they display properly without transcoding media on my Plex server. I prefer the Roku 100% over the Firestick, so I am really hopeful something can be done with the Roku to begin allowing image based subtitles without the need to transcode them into the video. Update: We purchased an Apple TV 4K 32GB during the Apple Black Friday sale and it doesn't have any issues with subtitles. Looks like we're moving on from Roku since they don't seem to be doing anything about resolving this issue. This makes me sad... I loved my Roku!5.9KViews27likes15CommentsFeature Request: Parental Controls
ROKU, PLEASE IMPROVE/SET UP EXTENSIVE PARENTAL CONTROLS OR I’M SWITCHING TO A PLATFORM THAT HAS THEM ALREADY!!!! I’ll GIVE U A COUPLE MONTHS! People, we need to ban together & bring up this need of ours or Roku will do nothing about it!! Please speak up: post a concern or need of yours regarding parental controls too, or nothing will change!!! There’s power in numbers(& only in #s).4.6KViews17likes12CommentsFeature Request: TV Time Limits in Parental Controls
So, I have a daughter who has a Roku TV in her room. Recently, I've caught her watching TV late at night on school nights and such. It would be really nice to add a TV Time Limits feature within Parental Controls where you can block the tv from being used after a certain hour (10:00pm to 9:00am, etc.) Confiscating the remote and phone shouldn't have to be completely necessary. Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the possibility of this getting added sometime in the future. Thanks!3.7KViews20likes1CommentFeature request: parental control for home screen access
Here’s my use case: my young kids have learned that if they wake up long before my wife and I, they can get on the Roku and watch whatever they want. Not worried about them seeing inappropriate content because we prepare for this. However, we often find them awake at 3:00 AM watching their shows. A few features that would help... 1. Add an optional feature to parental controls that asks for a pin on boot up not just to purchase apps 2. Add a “off-time” scheduler feature that won’t allow the Roku to be used based on a schedule. Maybe a pin override to bypass if needed.3.5KViews12likes4CommentsFeature Request: Parental Controls
Hello All, As a parent and customer; I am requesting that Roku expand parental controls. My kids need a password to view apps/shows such as "Go Noodle" and "NASA TV" because it doesn't have a rating?! Furthermore, why can't you keep "Kid and Family" screen up all the time for the Roku channel app? If you agree please like this post and post your own comments. Let the Roku company know. Thank you for your time.2.4KViews16likes4CommentsAdd the "JustWatch" app to the app store
The JustWatch app is useful for looking up information about movies and TV. If we had the ability to add the app directly onto our Roku TVs, we'd be able to use our phones to search for content and launch our desired result to our TV from any service we have, including Roku's content. Here's the information they list on their website about how we need to link the app to our TV: https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv I've checked the app store options on my TCL Roku TV and don't see the JustWatch app listed.41Views1like1CommentExpand Guest Mode
The current Implementation is not bad, but it lacks some quality of life features I think “hosts” and “guests” could enjoy. Here is some of my thoughts. I know it’s been said but preloading. Having any app downloaded before guest mode should remain on the Home Screen. If the host has like a plex server or similar software they want to allow their guests to utilize on a designated account, the ability for specific apps to either not be signed out, or just auto signed in to a certain account. My view of how this could work is if you sign into an app outside of guest mode, when you sign into guest mode, that app will remain signed in. If a user logs in to their own account, then when guest mode “resets” it logs out of their account, and re-logs into the correct account. I feel that this could really make Roku Guest mode even more powerful and effective for both hosts and guests. Alternatively, if a guest already owns a Roku of their own, then they could sign into guest mode like it’s a new Roku, and sync with their accounts accordingly, then at the end of the “rental period” it can reset and wipe their profile off the Roku device. Either of these suggestions could make Roku a powerhouse and the “no doubt” best place for streaming various streaming platforms.24Views1like1CommentRoku paid subscriptions
I had turned on my Roku streaming device and clicked on an option to play jeopardy. I saw nothing to suggest I was going to be charged until after I was charged. I immediately cancelled but now I am told that there are no refunds. I would not have signed up if I had known I would be charged. It really seems awfully shady to me. I really had not had that experience with Roku before. Be careful what you click on. Roku has no avenues to contact anyone but a bot. I am disappointed. I think I should have been able to get my money back.24Views0likes0Comments
