I have a new Roku ultra. I have a Spectrum modem connected to a Linksys router. I want to watch Roku AND use my computer via Ethernet, so I believe what I have to do is connect the router to my Roku AND to my desktop computer (Mac) via Ethernet cables. I know from a previous setup that there's a proper order to do this, (e.g. Roku to router via cable, router to computer via cable??? .. don't know if that's it, just an example) but don't have my notes.
Can anyone help? (please don't tell me about WiFi, that's not my question)
thanks, hope this is clear!
Emily
thank you so much! I have been wrong all these years thinking it needed something more than just connecting each device via an Ethernet cord to one of the multiple ports on the router!
Your router should have multiple Ethernet inputs on it. One is usually a different color than the others and that goes to the modem. The others are for separate devices, so you connect your computer to one and your Ultra to another. There's no connection from the Ultra to the computer. Your Linksys router probably has Wi-Fi which would be another way to connect the Ultra, but if you can run an Ethernet cable from the Ultra to the router that's the way to go.
If you need more help post the model number of your Linksys router.
If you have only one available Ethernet connection, connect it to the input of an Ethernet switch (such as this), then connect the outputs of the switch to your Roku Ultra and to your TV.
