Will not connect to wifi

Roku will not connect to the wifi router. I have 3 rukos in the house and all 3 stopped connecting. I have tried restarting the devices, using the secret network menu, and restating the router. Nothing. The internet works fine on all other devices in my home except the rokus.

Re: Will not connect to wifi

Basic Router/Network Configuration for Roku Devices (Wireless Settings)

2.4gz network band..... Radio Enabled/On, set Channel between 1-11, not Auto, 12, 13, or 14, Protocols/Mode set to b/g/n (mixed), Bandwidth 20Mhz.

5gz network band..... Radio Enabled/On, set channel 36-48 or 149-161, not Auto or any channel 52thru140, Protocols/Mode set to N/AC (mixed), Bandwidth 20mhz  or 20/40.

These changes are made in your router often through logging into admin panel or use of a router app depending on router.

Express and Premiere use the 2.4gz band, all other Roku models can use either the 2.4gz or 5gz bands of your network.

These are not necessarily the most optimized router settings for a network, but these should get the Roku device to connect and then you can optmize from there regarding Bandwidth and Protocol/Mode Settings.

If you still have problems after verifying above, post your roku devices and your router model.

Re: Will not connect to wifi

Ever since early March, my Roku has been spotty. Every day it gets worse. So far in March I've gone 3 straight days -- with a short reprieve-- and now this week 4 straight days with NO connection to Wifi. All of my other devices are able to connect to wifi just fine, and consistently. WHEN is ROKU going to fix this? I've seen postings on here about the 2.4g and 5g -- but I dont understand how to reconfigure my router. I have NO ONE to help me with this. Comcast just tells me it's a ROKU issue, and meanwhile I've gone nearly a whole week without any TV. Someone please post a solution. Thank you.

@KarenZ05

If you provide your router model number and your Roku device models, perhaps I can provide you with some links that will teach you how to make necessary changes to your network and answer additional questions you have.

Re: Will not connect to wifi

There are two wifi bands in use by routers, one at 2.4 GHz and one at 5 GHz.  Your Express only uses the 2.4 GHz band and can't even see the 5 GHz band.

On  your other mobile devices that DO connect to your router, can you determine what wifi channel number they are using?  That will tell us which band they are connected to.  Your Express can only see wifi channels 1 through 11.

I have checked my 2.4 Gz connection and it says it is connecting on Channel 6. What now is the next step in restoring my wifi so I can stream TV again? Thank you.

Re: Will not connect to wifi

@KarenZ05

The numbers provided before did not include a model number of your router.  Is there a sticker somewhere on the bottom or side of the router that says model?  You are most likely going to have to go into router settings to see what is causing issue.  This sticker may also tell you how to access your admin panel.

If showing channel 6 currently, unless there is a lot of interference on that channel, you should be able to get the Express to connect.

What is your result when you Check Connection from the Express? (Settings...Network...Check Connection).  Getting both network and internet connection?  What is the Signal Strength, the Internet download speed, and the Wireless channel reported by the Roku Express?  Is it also reporting an IP address?

Do the following using your Remote and post back your results or provide a screenshot. (Press Home at least 5 times, then Up, Down, Up, Down, Up)

Note the line that says Channel, RSSI, noise, and SNR.  Also note the colors of the bars and Strength, Antenna 1 readings.  Glitch also, but not very important.

I also did not see in your postings if you have tried simply rebooting your router and the roku device.  The first step when a wireless device loses its connection is to reboot/ restart both devices to reset its connection.  Router first, let it load, then reboot the device (Express).

I've run into this here several times.  This has always worked for me:

  • Restart your router (even if other devices have no problem finding and connecting). Sometimes that's all it takes, if not keep going.
  • Restart the Roku to clear its memory via Settings > System > System restart (for a Roku TV it's Settings > System > Power > System restart). Again sometimes that's all it takes, if not keep going.
  • Find and connect to your network via Settings> Network > Set up connection

If that doesn't fix it, try disconnecting the power to your Roku for a few seconds.  When it comes back up, see if you then can set up the network connection.
