Wifi Connection following Update

Jump to solution

Following some sort of 03Feb2022 update, my Roku Premium will NOT find the wifi where the router is sitting less than 10 ft away with EXCELLENT signal and ALL other devices in the house work flawlessly.

I have reset the modem, reset the roku multiple times no luck. Finally, being so frustrated at this two day ordeal, I did a factory reset... now it won't get past the wifi page.

Please provide assistance

Sad and embarrassingly, changing my password on my router instantly allowed connection. How JACKED UP is that 😞

If Roku cared about customer service they would fix this long KNOWN issue.

Thanks for your continued dialogue. The "known issue" is, following some sort of Roku initiated update/s some customers have trouble reconnecting. Using online resources, I was able to find this "fix", after trying everything else suggested, change your router password, then reconnect

I assure you, prior to changing my router to a NEW password, I was NOT incorrectly entering the previous password.  There is a "Bug" somewhere!

Additionally, after changing the router password and regaining Roku access, I changed the password back to the original password... all is well. I hoping by changing the password back to the original, I might not have to change the passwords on all my devices, no such luck.

@MrIsh

First, it may be helpful to know which Roku you have. I suspect you are referring to a Premiere. However, there are two different devices using that name. If the model number (Settings > System > About) is 3920, then it only supports 2.4 GHz band, 802.11 b/g/n. If your wireless router is from an ISP, particularly Comcast/Xfinity, but other ISPs will do this too, sometimes they will change it to g/n. If that's what happened, then it won't connect.

Note that it may simply be a coincidence that it happened around the same time as an update. Two things happening at the time time can be completely unrelated. So, check the wireless settings and ensure your 2.4 GHz band is set to b/g/n.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, spellcheck got me, my device is a Roku Premiere 4K & HDR, SKU# 3920RW, Lot# 2189032547, Device ID JF28AD371499.  Unfortunately, the device is stuck on the language page where the next step is connect to WiFi. Which I have unsuccessfully attempted to complete for two days.

I have reset ALL devices multiple times, including the little button in the back of the device. I have followed the click Home five times, click Up Arrow, click Rewind twice, click Fast Forward twice and waited, the system simply reset the same way it resets using the button in the back, the on-line reset, and the unplug reset. One thing is clear, the is NOT an issue with ANY other device in the house.

As to your b/g/n suggestion, where would the person that sits on the couch enjoying the efforts of others find that?

I'm not sure what this "known issue" is. From what I'm reading, the network password was incorrect. Maybe I'm missing something in what you wrote, but if that was the problem, Roku can't make you enter it correctly. That's not something they can fix. Again, maybe I'm overlooking something in what you wrote, and I'm not understanding what you say the issue was, if not an incorrect password.

As for the reset button, you have to press and hold for no less than 30 seconds if you want to do a full factory reset. That is the sure way to factory reset. Many will hold it down until the screen goes black or some other action on screen. The proper full reset method is a full 30 seconds, regardless of what's onscreen.

As for how to check the settings on your router, I don't know what router you have. But rather than tell me and me enter that in a search engine, you could do that yourself a lot quicker. Usually, there is a local link that's either written on the router, or in the documentation that came with it. Either way, you access it via a Web browser, you would enter the admin id (often 'admin') and password. Then, via an interface, you could check, and if necessary, change the settings.

These exact steps vary from brand to brand and even model to model within brands. So, there's no one answer. However, searching for your router's model number online should return some results that include how to access the admin interface.

If you were able to connect with proper network credentials, then it seems as if the b/g/n changed to g/n was not the issue anyway. However, it's sometimes a good thing to know how to do, if network issues arise (not limiting discussion to Roku for this).
