Roku Express 3930x, excellent signal strength, good (5Mbps at best) internet download speed. I’ve already done all the rebooting, restarting, factory reset, etc. on device, and restarted new Verizon router. I’ve checked out other posts and FAQ’s, but can’t get it to work on a regular basis. An app may work for awhile, but not reliably.
A second point I’d like to make, is that when it was working properly in the past, the Fox News app, accessed though my Xfinity account, always seemed to have issues.
Any help on these issues will be greatly appreciated.
If 5Mbps is at best, then what is it at worst?
I would try a different Wi-Fi channel and reorienting and moving the Roku and the router. Sometimes just an inch or two makes a difference.
@PloJust to confirm, are you saying your Internet speed is ONLY 5 mbps? That's slower than ancient dial up, LOL. I'd suggest you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone to determine channel congestion. Once installed, open the app and view how many others are using the same channel, the log into the router, disable the 'auto' setting for channel selection and manually choose a channel with less congestion. IF your speed is this slow, its not sufficient to stream 4K or HD. I have a feeling you meant to say the speed is 50 or 500 instead. Hope that helps
I just was able to resolve this issue on my roku tv. Roku doesn't recognize 5ghz bandwidth. You might have to go to network settings and split the bands sonyou have a 2.4ghz and 5ghz rename your 2.4 and save the change. After that go to security mode on your modem/router and change it to WPA 2/3 transition-personal or whatever it might be called so it can determine the best way to connect. Doing this is what finally made it possible for me to connect my tv to wifi. Hope this helps. If you need help with any steps please let me know
For clarification you want to connect to 2.4ghz and change security mode in modem/router settings to transition
5Mbps is somewhat marginal but OK. Dial-up in the 90s was around 30Kbps, or 0.03Mbps. (In the 70s, dialup was usually 300bps!)
Some people have run Rokus on DSL at 1Mbps. Picture quality is quite bad at that speed.
I did the son thing to my Verizon router, and have Roku on 2.4. Couldn’t find the security or transition option you mentioned. Things are a little better. Up to 19 mbps, but it sometimes drops down to 6 mbps. It doesn’t seem to stay constant. It keeps buffering. Thanks
Hi Roku Guru
I have moved both the Roku and the router. I put the router on 2.4 G. Every time I click check connection on Roku, I get a substantially different value. Then I restart Roku, but it doesn’t seem to affect anything. My internet connection values vary from 18 Mbps all the way down to nothing, or poor internet connection. At that point, I believe there was an error code 018. I’ll have to double check that.
Thanks
6-19Mbps is fine. 0-18Mbps, is not so fine (unless those zeros are very brief and infrequent). See if your router has a setting for modes - some Rokus with some Routers are reputed to have problems if the router is only doing g/n modes. Switching to all modes: b/g/n has helped some people.
Many here would strongly recommend the Express 4K/4K+ 3940/3941 over the 3930. At the very least it gives you the option of 5GHz, which could be better at your location. (2.4GHz is often crowded.)
Thanks
I’ve been trying to contact Verizon to see if I can change the mode, but that was useless.
Might you have any knowledge on that? I don’t see that in my router settings.
I’m not looking to buy another Roku, but rather get this one back to working again.
