Suddenly no connection and no pairing of Roku 2

A few days ago my Roku 2, which had been working fine, would not connect to Wi-fi. Also the remote would not work - no light came on with any button press. After trying new batteries I pressed the pairing button. The remote will continue trying to pair until it gives up. The Roku 2 presents the ROKU flash screen and then the channels, but the remote will not work with it and the screen just alternates back and forth between the channel list and the flash screen.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this or will I need a new device?

Thanks for the post.

Please be aware that the Roku 2 (2720X) is an older device that is no longer under warranty. It's possible that the device may simply be on its way out.
