Streaming Speed

I just purchased a Roku Premier to upgrade from an older Express because I was hoping for faster streaming speed. I was getting 35-45 mbps with the Express and I'm getting the same with the new Premier. My WiFi is up to 1,000 mbps and I just did a speed test with my phone and it registered 405 mbps but my TV network test said I was getting 31 mbps. I don't see why the speed hasn't improved. The Premier unit is about 8 feet away from my WiFi tower with no obstructions. Why isn't the Premier's faster processing speed giving me faster streamiing?

Re: Streaming Speed

Both the Express and Premiere only have single band WiFi radios. So they only work on the 2.4 GHz band. While the theoretical speed on that band can approach 300 Mbps, many devices are limited to 100 Mbps or less.

The Roku Stick+ and Ultra have dual band radios, and can utilize the 5 GHz WiFi band. Speeds are usually much higher in that band, partially due to far less interference compared to 2.4 GHz. In the lower band, there's far more competition for the same frequencies.
