Hey guys. My roku won't connect to my internet but connects to my phone data. I have rested the roku stick. Even factory restored it to. Still nothing. I have rest both modem and router. I need help!
Hi @Acej23
Thanks for the post.
If you are getting an error code or message, refer to this link for common Roku error codes and their recommended actions: What should I do if I cannot connect to my home network or the internet?
Furthermore, if the affected device is a Roku Express or Roku Premiere, please note that they are only compatible with wireless b/g/n networks on the 2.4 GHz spectrum. Ensure that your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for the device to connect to. You can check your device model by navigating to Settings > System > About.
You can also try configuring your router and use wireless channels 1, 6, or 11 which are the preferred channels in North America. Each time you change the wireless channel, you will likely need to apply/save changes before you are prompted to restart the router.
Let us know how it goes!
All the best,
Kariza
Hi, thanks for the response! I seen articles about that. It usually gives me the option to choose whether I use the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz but the roku device only showing the name with the 2.4 GHz. Is there a way to see if it's still trying to pull the 5 GHz band?
Appreciate the reply.
The 5 GHz frequency has a narrow coverage area so you can try moving your Roku stick near to the router and see if it will be able to detect it. Furthermore, when you try to connect your device to the 2.4 GHz signal, do you receive an error message?
Please keep us posted.
All the best,
Kariza
I didn't receive any error. It will say connected for about 10 seconds and then just disconnects. I have tried many different things from rebooting modem/router, factory reseting the roku stick.
@Acej23, do you know what 5GHz channel your router is using? If it's set to "Auto", set it to one below 50 or above 150.
@renojim To be honest I really have no clue. I thinking alot of my issues came from getting a new Modem and a new router. I can't even get in to my I.P. address because it's already set to a user name and password.
Some models of Roku are 2.4ghz WiFi only. Older and cheaper models don't have 5ghz support, or more advanced versions of 2.4ghz
(Articles here and on wikipedia show available WiFi support by device).
@Acej23, who is your ISP? If you just got a new modem/router it could be set to use the same SSID (network name) for both 2.4 and 5GHz. There should be a username and password on a sticker on the modem/router to log into it or some ISPs provide an app.
