I have the Roku Express and we did have internet issues yesterday which we got resolved. At least it works on all of our devices except the Roku. Either the internet doesn't connect at all despite having "Excellent" connection per the roku or it will connect but opening apps takes a long time to load, the video plays with terrible quality, and buffers a lot. I have restarted the internet modem and roku device multiple times and I have no problems on other devices on the same TV. I searched through other topics of similar issues and the suggestions of restarting the devices and changing batteries in the remote don't work. The other suggestion I've seen is that the roku might be getting old but I've only had this device for a month and a half so I really hope that isn't the lifespan of this.
I had a similar issue when I looked into my router I found it looked like the Roku was still connected even though it wasn't. I unplugged my Roku rebooted my router made sure the Roku was out of my router. If your router saves devices delete it. Restarted the Roku then connected fine.
It worked! Thank you so much!
How do you make sure Roku is out of the router?
You access the modem/router/gateway's configuration pages with your browser (e.g https://192.168.0.1- the address will be different for different devices) and remove it from a device listing page (or a DHCP page).
Otherwise, just restarting/rebooting the modem/router/gateway suffices.
Thanks I rebooted router but still only Fair connection. I have an older Roku Express so I might need a newer model.
Hello everyone,
The Roku started doing the same thing where it wouldn't connect to the internet despite saying it has an Excellent signal strength. I did the same thing where I unplugged the Roku, then restarted my internet router and made sure the roku was deleted from its remembered devices. Now that I've plugged everything in again the roku still cannot connect to the internet.
Thanks for the follow up.
Have you made sure that the router is broadcasting in 2.4 GHz and have you already tried changing the wireless channel that you are using to see if that helps what you are seeing?
Please keep us posted what you find out.
Thanks,
Danny
Hi Danny,
Yes - my router is broadcasting in 2.4 GHz. I have multiple Roku sticks around my house and - go figure - only the one closest to the router won’t connect. Even though it says the signal strength is “Excellent.” I’ve tried everything - restarting/resetting the router, restarting/resetting the Roku… can’t figure it out. What else should I try?
Thanks.
@jw408, try swapping the non-connecting stick with one that does connect. See if the problem follows the stick or where a stick is located.
