I've had my Roku for 9 months with no problems whatsoever. Now, every time I turn the TV on, it won't connect to the internet. It doesn't disconnect during a watch session, but as soon as the TV turns off, it disconnects. It says my signal strength is excellent, and I know it's not the internet that's the problem because all my other devices are connected and work just fine. I've turned the Roku off, I've factory reset it, I made sure there wasn't a device update that needed to be done. The only thing that works is restarting the router, but it must be something other than the internet since all my other devices work. I even bought a new Roku thinking the other one went bad, but this one is doing the same thing. Is there a setting I have wrong? I refuse to keep restarting the router every single time I want to watch TV. And don't send me the generic Roku link or I'll scream.
Who is your ISP? If it's Comcast/Xfinity or Cox ensure your Wi-Fi wireless mode is set to b/g/n and not g/n.
I have AT&T, would that be the same problem?
My guess is your problem is caused by a change introduced by Roku operating system version 10.5. It added added a new "Power" item in the "Settings > System" menu for some of the latest Roku models. The new "Auto power savings" item there will put your Roku device into a low power standby condition after a period of inactivity, such as when your tv has been turned off for a while.
Pressing a Roku control key on your Roku remote (not Power, Volume, or Mute which act on the TV, not the Roku) should bring the Roku out of standby and back to full operation.
If you have a "Settings > System > Power" menu item, see if deactivating any power saving options you find under "Auto power savings" will prevent your Roku from going into standby.
I don't have any kind of power settings on my Roku, so mine must be older I guess. I went through every setting but there was nothing about power settings.
I am having the same issue. I was watching tv and my connection was lost. I called xfinity and the trouble is not on their end. I cannot keep my roku connected
