Roku Stick suddenly does not want to connect to internet

Hi, suddenly 1 or 2 days ago my Roku Streaming Stick does not want to connect to my wireless network. I recently got new WIFI, and all my other devices even in the same room are working perfectly fine with a very strong connection.

It has never done this before and I am looking for a solution. I have already tried to factory reset it however once connecting to a network in the setup, it gives me the same exact error message I received before.

I've had this Roku for 1 or 2 years now so I assume it might be time to just get a new one?

Most likely the settings of your new wi-fi setup is the culprit.  Are the other devices in the room other Roku devices?

If you are using a single SSID name, your stick should at least be able to connect to your 2.4gz network if it is not seeing your 5gz network.

Are you able to confirm that both your 2.4gz and 5gz bands of your network are broadcasting?  If so, what channels are they set to?

No, they are not. However I have had the new WIFI for around 2 weeks, and this has not happened ever. I have multiple other Roku's scattered around my house and all work fine.

It's quite late for me right now so I will have to do some more investigating on what you said tomorrow.

Re: Roku Stick suddenly does not want to connect to internet

When you are looking at your router settings, you are basically looking to see that both the 2.4gz and 5gz are enabled and broadcasting.  With regard to the 5gz, you want to see that channels 52-140 or Auto are not your settings.  If you download any wifi analyzer app to your phone, would probably be helpful.

Post back tomorrow what you discover and can help from there hopefully.  Router model would also be helpful.

You can also try plugging the stick's power supply into the wall, or borrow a power cord and supply from your other roku devices and see if that is the issue.  If all your other Roku devices are working properly, then most certainly can just de a device issue.  What are your other Roku models that are working?

Re: Roku Stick suddenly does not want to connect to internet

I currently have 3 Roku Expresses and a Roku Ultra. All work fine. This Roku stick is plugged in the back of the TV and power is supplied through the USB port. It unfortunately does not have a power port I don't think. The router is an ATNT Wifi Gateway BGW320.

I will take your advice regarding the Wifi router, thanks.

Re: Roku Stick suddenly does not want to connect to internet

Actually, now knowing that you have multiple devices working (Expresses using the 2.4gz band) and the Ultra (if using wireless, not ethernet, capable of using both 2.4gz and 5gz) we can conclude the 2.4gz is operating as it should be.  Still have to look at your 5gz settings but looking more like a device issue.

In your case, I would move your stick to another working Roku location that is closer to the `router and see if you get a better result or same condition.  I don't think it is your router settings, though.  By powering directly to wall, should boost the wifi antenna strength of your stick if you find that moving stick closer to router allows it to connect and work as intended.

Oh no, the BGW320 again.  Remember this discussion?  It's probably using a DFS channel.
