Roku Premiere initial set-up

I have just taken Roku out of the box and connected up.

But though it sees my network and shows a strong signal

It only occasionally connects and when it does it sits for a few minutes, restarts and asks  me to choose a network again!

I have many other devices nearby which connect to the same network wirelessly, including the TV that Roku is displaying on!

I moved the Roku about but it still behaves the same.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

Just a thought. I have an earlier Roku elsewhere in the house which has always had issue connecting during the daytime. I have blamed my network for that fault. But as this Roku is showing similar problems. Is this a Roku problem affecting both devices!

Re: Roku Premiere initial set-up

Let's start with the "sits for a few minutes, restarts and asks me to choose a network again".  That's not normal.  Are you using the supplied power adapter and not the TV's USB port?

Re: Roku Premiere initial set-up

Certainly, I follow the instructions explicitly.

Let me first say that I am leaning towards the footnote of my post as strong supporting evidence.

I said that the Roku in my other room (2 years old) shows poor Internet connection during the daytime, but from around 6p.m. the situation improves. Throughout the night there is no issue.

This Roku Premiere also this evening around 5-6 started connecting more reliably and now 9p.m. has no problem!

You will understand that I have repeatedly tried to get to the problem shown by my older Roku. I have blamed my router, interference and a whole host of things, of which none have shown a problem when tested. But the fact that two Roku's both show the problem, is significant.

Is there a particular requirement in Roku for a signal that is unusual?

I should say no other devices in the house (and I have many) exhibit this strange behaviour!

Re: Roku Premiere initial set-up

So it's no longer restarting on its own?

I think you and I are looking at this from different perspectives.  You think that two Roku devices acting the same at the same time of day points to something in Roku devices and I think it points to something in the environment.  Wi-Fi issues can be tough to track down.  To me, that they seem to work at night points to something in the environment during the day that gets turned off or not used as much at night.  Microwave ovens, old cordless phones, and other devices that are used more during the day are good sources of interference.  It could be something your neighbor is doing.

Believe me, I'm not saying that Roku devices don't have Wi-Fi issues.  That's why I always get devices that can be wired.  All you can do is try different Wi-Fi channels and/or frequency bands for devices that are dual-band.
