Roku Premier Plus can only see my 2.4GHz and not 5GHz connection. Laptop can see both . Why?

I have a new wireless provider. It has the option for either a 2.4GHz or 5GHz option. The 5GHz is recommended for streaming devices. My Roku Premier Plus can only see the 2.4GHz connection. However my laptop using wi-fi can see both. Both are the same distance from the wi-fi router. Laptop shows the 2.4GHz signal is excellent and the 5GHz is good. Does Roku only show the strongest connection? How do I connect to the 5GHz?

What's the model number?  The name Premiere+ has been used on models with (4630) and without (3921) 5GHz support.

That’s it. I have the 3921 RW model. Apparently it doesn’t support 5GHz.

Thanks for the reply

Does this router only give you the choice of 2.4 or 5 GHz?  Many/most can be set to use both.  If this is equipment supplied by your internet provider you may need to contact them to see if it can be configured that way.

Hi @mavazi38

Thanks for letting us know about the issue you're experiencing.

If your affected player is a Roku Premier as per the title on this thread, please be noted that Roku Premier is a single-band wireless device and is only compatible with wireless b/g/n networks on the 2.4 GHz spectrum. Ensure that your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for the device to connect to. You can check your device model by navigating to Settings > System > About.

You can also try configuring your router and use wireless channels 1, 6, or 11 which are the preferred channels in North America. Each time you change the wireless channel, you will likely need to apply/save changes before you are prompted to restart the router.

Please keep us posted on how it goes!

All the best,
Kariza
