I bought a Roku Premiere in Oct. It sits about 6 feet from my Wifi router, so I have no doubt signal is strong (although Roku settings show signal as borderline weak).
Nearly 100% of the time I try to watch the Roku, I get a message telling me that there is no connection. My only solution is to power cycle the roku, after which it works fine.
I have read dozens of posts online in your forums about similar issues, and have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions, official and unofficial. The problem persists.
I am ready to return the unit as a warranty claim.
Has anyone found an actual permanent solution to this problem?
(FWIW, unit seems to be very warm, even after days of no use.)
First, most Roku players do run warm, especially the Stick. My Premiere has been on for many days, and it's warm to the touch.
None of the Rokus I use with a wireless connection have issues staying connected. I see complaints with the Express often, but not any other model.
Before returning it, there's a couple of things you can try. First, just move the Premiere a few inches in any direction. The size of the wavelength at WiFi frequencies is very small, and you might be sitting in a null spot. If that makes no change, try changing the channel your WiFi router is using. Most are on Auto by default, and they don't always pick the best possible channel. On 2.4 GHz, you can use any channel from 1 to 11. Typically the best channel to use is at either end on the middle (1, 6 or 11). Sometimes a little experimentation does the trick.
Thanks for your suggestions. Moving the Roku does not seem to have helped. I also suspected wifi channel, but unfortunately, my mesh network requires auto select for channel.
I have a second premiere in another room that works fine. I will try to swap them to see if problem is location based or device based. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!
Hi @rcgregs,
Thanks for the note.
We recommend starting here to troubleshoot Network issues: What should I do if I cannot connect to my home ... - Roku
We recommend rebooting both your wireless router and your Roku device.
I'd also recommend trying to connect your device to an alternate network, such as a mobile hotspot.
Please keep us posted on what you find out.
Thanks,
Mary
