Hello,
I have an old Now TV Roku Model: 4201 which I have used for years. However I have just moved and have a new wifi hub, everything else is the same. Before I send it to recycling on account of its age I wondered if there was a simple way of restoring or encouraging it to find the new wifi? I hold the reset button in and the white led goes through a routine before flashing intermittently for eternity! Nothing on the tv screen.
Thanks for any advice or thoughts.
This must be VERY old. I don't see that model number anywhere but eBay. By the NowTV branding, I'm guessing it's just a rebadged Roku 3, model 4200. The 4200 was released in 2013 so it is 12 years old. I doubt Roku supports it anymore. It's WiFi may be too outdated to connected to newer routers as there is more security set by default these days. It might work if you enable some older protocols.
To be honest, if you want a new Roku device, get an Express 4K+. Do NOT get the basic Express, as it's too limited and is just a low-price point for users who may only use a single app.
You could try setting up a guest network on your router with 2.4 ghz only and WPA2 and see if the TV will connect. If the TV is as old as Andy indicated, then the operating system and its capabilities are becoming obsolete in electronic terms, and it will struggle to handle most new internet protocols and/or apps.
