Roku Express asking where I am and will not allow me to connect to wireless network

Jump to solution

When setting up my new Roku Express I choose my network and enter password and it goes thru check of wireless and internet connection where I get green check marks for both and then it asks where am I?  I answer home then it checks wireless and internet connection again and I get 2 green check marks but it freezes and restarts and will not connect me.  It keeps doing this and I cannot move past this step.

@creinsborough, try restarting all of your network equipment - gateway/modem/router.  Just unplug the power from everything for a few seconds and plug them back in.  You'll get that message if the Roku has a problem reaching some (unknown) server when it checks its Internet access.  Restart the Roku once the network comes back up.

@creinsborough

Your Roku is asking you where you are? I don't recall ever encountering that. What is the exact wording? Don't paraphrase, let us know word for word what it says. And, a screen shot would help. I'm wondering if it's actually the Roku giving that message.

@creinsborough

That's definitely a Roku message. It's as if it's in Hotel/Dorm mode. Many of those, you need to respond with a Web browser to complete the connection. Roku is thinking you need to respond. Is your network set up in such a way. When you first connected your phone to your network, did you have to do any extra response? Can you think of any reason why it may be expecting an additional response from you?

Thanks for your responses.  Not that I am aware.  Going to reach out to ISP as despite getting the 2 green check marks having issues with WiFi on my other devices.
