I have a Roku Express 4K+ model 3941x software version 10.5.0 build 4201-CR. 3 times since Monday it’s disconnected from internet (while watching) and have to restart the entire Roku to get it to connect again. It’s reconnected when it boots back up but it’s becoming a irritation.
Since the Express 4k/4k+ is a dual band device (both 2.4ghz and 5ghz capable) you have a couple of options for troubleshooting a dropping connection.
1. If using the 5ghz band, try connecting to the 2.4ghz band
2. Try manually assigning a channel to both the 2.4 ghz and 5ghz band so that the default "Auto" setting of most routers won't disconnect when searching for better connection. For 2.4ghz band, try channels 1, 6, or 11. Additionally, lower the Bandwidth/Channel Width to 20mhz if set higher. For the 5ghz band, use channels 36-48, or 149-161.
Feel free to post back with update or if you need more help.
the other Rokus in the house (2 are identical) aren’t disconnecting if that makes a difference.
but I appreciate the feedback but that might as well be a different language to me. I dont know what any of that means, I know how to find the router while looking for it in wireless connections and know how to type in the password. I don’t even know how to change the password to the router after the company sets it
Not uncommon for a single Roku device to be disconnecting while other Roku devices stay connected or even other devices. The router broadcasts a signal that is picked up by the individual devices. Interference, network congestion, distance from router can all play a part why some devices perform better than others.
You can simply switch the problem Roku device with a known good location and see if system performance improves. That is probably the easiest method.
Otherwise, post back your router model number and ISP (internet service provider) and can hpefully provide you some instructions how to login to your router and make the necessary changes/improvements. Everyone really should learn how to do this so as to understand how their network works.
