For 2 days I have been reading all the posts regarding updating a ROKU device. I have followed every bit of information to the letter. I have powered off/on, reset my router, manually checked for updates, tried to download updates, and finally resulted to a factory reset. Now my device will connect to my WiFi, and I get the 003 error message that the device can not update. I have also encountered error codes 500 and 016. I'm to the point now where I want to download the updates to an USB, but I can not find the updates to download to an USB. The only updates I can find are for ROKU TVs.
I purchased new ROKUs for all of my TVs less than a year ago. This seems a little ridiculous that I can't use them. The fact that you can't contact tech support even through email is the poorest form of customer service I have ever witnessed.
Can anyone point me to where to download the updates?
As you've seen, only TVs have updates that can be downloaded. Try connecting to an alternate network like your phone's hotspot just to download the update. You don't say what model Roku you have, but if it only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and you have Comcast/Xfinity or Cox as your ISP ensure the Wi-Fi wireless mode is set to b/g/n and not g/n.
I have the same issue with a Roku Premiere external device. After a factory reset (apps were not functioning correctly), it could not update the device software even though it is connected to Wi-Fi. Have not checked to see if extender router is set to b/g/n.
I was able to fix it by taking it to my job. When it comes to the question about is it your home or a hotel/work, pick the hotel option. It will allow you to jump into the device through your cell phone. You might be able to update it that way. I had to do that way at work and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps.
