I have a model 4800x Ultra. After running the Roku speed check (check connection) is simply incorrect or there is a bigger issue. Hard wired reads 92 wireless 34 to 60. I have 400 Mbps. Have done hard reset, unplugged, changed sockets, changed networks etc. The Ultra is NEXT to the router and have also used ethernet - dont know if the box is not capable of accurate readouts or its something else. Have tested the speeds thoroughly with other devices & apps. All read 300 to 400+ mbps. This device wasnt inexpensive -, I expect better
That's all you're going to get out of it and all it needs for 4k streaming from any provider. Unless you're having issues streaming there's really no reason to check the speed.
So, its simply an incorrect reading. Maybe they should drop the metric. I'll continue to use - should the device stream poorly, there are several very good alternatives on the market
No it's not an incorrect reading. Rokus were designed with components capable of handling the streaming of one single program at a time over the internet. They have not engineered in download capability beyond this. So the number you are seeing reflects the actual capability of the unit.
Thank you!!! That's an actual answer. I appreciate it & definitely makes sense
Roku devices with an Ethernet connection only support 100BaseT, or 100 Mbps. With Ethernet overhead, it's usually about 92 Mbps max, right what you are getting. Why your wireless isn't capable of a faster speed, I can't say. In theory the 4800 should be able to handle 2-300 Mbps, over 802.11ac, but I can't seem to get mine any faster than the wired connection either.
THANK YOU - I appreciate the fact that I'm getting some really solid answers in this forum! Issue solved
