ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

I had to do a factory reset on my Roku because when I got home on 9/13 none of them worked any more.  I tried all of the posted fixes and nothing worked.  After speaking to the FUBO help desk (imagine that!), I was told that the only option to fix things was a factory reset.  It worked EXCEPT now my Roku won't recognize my High Def TV.  When I get to the display type selection, my only options are 4:3 standard or widescreen standard.  I've been using the same Roku Express and same TV for multiple years and always had High Def up until this evening.  Any way to fix this thing or do I just throw it away?

Re: ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

Are you connecting your 3910 by Composite (RCA) output?

Re: ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

Composite (RCA) output doesnt support HD (720p/1080p) - it only supports SD (~480), and the Display setting only allows an aspect ratio setting in Composite output mode (4:3 standard or 16:9 widescreen).

You'll need to connect via HDMI to get 720p/1080p output options.

Re: ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

I REALLY appreciate your help.  Truly.  Thank you.

That said, I didn't change anything...I've had High Def on this TV/Roku for the last few years.  It's only now that it doesn't work.  How can that be??  (I'm not questioning your knowledge...and I'm not a techy...I can just tell you with 100% certainty that I had High Def and now I don't and NOTHING about my TV/Roku/connection has changed.

Re: ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

I'll go buy an HDMI cord tomorrow and pray that it solves the problem.  I'm just completely flabbergasted that what DID work prior to this evening stopped working.  (There's no mistaking high def vs standard...if there was, it would not have been so revoltingly obvious tonight when it was back to a **bleep** standard picture.)

Anyway, thanks again.  I sure hope the HDMI cord fixes it because that's an easy solution.

Re: ROKU doesn't recognize high def tv

I have seen some scenarios/situations with Composite-capable Roku models where the Composite display options/settings are displayed in HDMI mode and the HDMI options/settings are displayed in Composite mode, so you may have experienced that previously.

(I've actually been able to cause this with my 3910:  If I connect via HDMI, manually configure it to 1080p, pull the power, reconnect via Composite and re-power it, Settings/Display=1080p HDCP 1.4, though the settings are 4:3 standard/16:9 widescreen)

Regardless of what the settings may have shown, the Composite output is never going to be 720p/1080p, only ~480.

Thanks so much.  I found an extra HDMI cable and plugged it in and it looks great.  Much gratitude for your time and help!
