Multiple Roku with same WiFi Mac Address

Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening to all,

We just recently purchased a total of 200 Roku Streaming Stick+ for each of our units at our resort for our Guests/Owners usage while they are staying for their week.

We went specifically with Roku, cause we love their Guest Mode feature.

Now that we have finished registering (Had to make 10 email accounts as Roku has an email account limit of just 20 devices per email).+ setting up all the Roku devices to startup in Guest Mode.

I am now starting to make static addresses for each Roku device and tag/name them to which unit they will be in to monitor them. I am not even in the first 10 yet and found multiple of the Roku devices with the same WiFi mac address and this will give me issues.

So my question is is there a way/solution that I can have all the Roku devices to have their own unique WiFi Mac Address?

Thanks in advance.

Short answer is no.

Other question is if these devices are reporting same MAC or is your network interpreting the MAC incorrectly.  I thought the sticks had their MAC addresses on the back of the device.  You can compare this number to the one Roku is reporting in Settings..System..About. Then compare this number to what your network is reporting as MAC.

Ideally, each stick should have own Serial Number and unique MAC.  This is normally flashed into the bootloader of the stick essentially.  If you are sure that it is a stick issue (from the steps above) and not a network issue, then I would report the issue to Roku.  Seems like a manufacturing issue/snafu or vendor overlap.  With the number of devices you purchased, I would be surprised it they wouldn't make it right for you.  Short of being replaced, it basically needs to be reflashed.

To narrow down if network issue, I would keep one device connected to your network, factory reset the duplicate, and then connect/setup the duplicate and see if network now detects/learns a different MAC address.  Another method of course, is to use a different router and see if MAC is now being reported differently.

If no success, then.... https://support.roku.com/contactus or maybe @RokuDanny-R can get you to proper support.

Re: Multiple Roku with same WiFi Mac Address

Thanks @AvsGunnar for the reply, much appreciated.

I found the answer to my problem and I feel stupid.

I have been programming some of the Roku's with the same power cords.

I totally forgot that the power cords are the WiFi antenna's which means that the WiFi mac address comes from them.

So, I am happy and feel stupid at the same time. 🙂

Thanks again.

Well, not exactly how it works, but good to see you got everything working correctly now and that's the important part!

Never realized this.  Quite interesting!
