Internet connection issues

Roku connects to internet wirelessly when I go to set up a new network. But if you go to stream or add a channel it wont load and says no internet connection. So then you go to check network no internet connection. I've unplugged roku and modem/router. I've factory reset roku and started completely over. I've reset my router. Nothing seems to be working. I've pulled up the secret wifi menu that I've seen mentioned. I've also checked roku for updates manually.

I don't understand what it's doing that it won't connect and stay connected for longer than "setup network" takes. I have 400 mbps internet service. Someone please help. Whay else can I do?

Re: Internet connection issues

Which Roku device to you have? Settings > System > About

Shooting in the dark here, but some Roku devices only support 2.4 GHz band, which can be a very crowded band. And, if the 2.4 GHz channel your network uses is very crowded, it could interfere with Roku.

So, model number will tell if the Roku supports only 2.4 GHz, and if further venture down that path is in order.

Re: Internet connection issues

I will have to get the ghz when I'm home to look at the device again.

If it is the because of the ghz, would I just need to get a newer roku device?

No, but you may need to change the channel your 2.4 GHz network uses. That can be easy to hard, depending on your wireless router.

Re: Internet connection issues

Model 3900rw-roku express is what it's saying. I don't see anything that has a GHz. Gives a serial number and a software version.

Is this the info you needed?

@Barbie3

Generally, that's information from your router. However, you can determine it from Roku. On the network information is a signal strength and a channel. A low channel number (1-13) means 2.4 GHz, and a higher channel means 5 GHz. If it's a crowded channel -- that is more common on 2.4 GHz band -- you may need to change the channel. That would depend on your router. However, let's not go down that road until we know which channel it's using.

Re: Internet connection issues

If I'm reading that correctly, you're using channel 1, which is on the 2.4 GHz band. If it's possible to change your router settings to use either 6 or 11, you may get better performance.

Note that depending on your very local situation (usually an area dozens of yards around your router) you may get interference from other networks or devices that are using 2.4 GHz channel 1.

Channels 1, 6, and 11 do not overlap, so if one of those doesn't give good performance, try one of the others. For me at one house, channel 11 works best. At another location, channel 1 is best. It's all very local.

Re: Internet connection issues

@Barbie3

That depends on your router. What make and model is your router? Is it one from your ISP? Or did you purchase your own?
