How much USB power do Roku streaming players need?

Jump to solution

Does this USB port provide enough power to the roku tv? I live in Turkey, the sockets the same as Europe, where the power outlet 220 Volts ~ 50 Hz I think America 120 Volts ~ 60 Hz only would this issue have been Hz difference? Does it work with plug socket converter, or do I need a voltage converter. Roku Premiere (3920 series)

Rokus like the Premiere that are powered via a USB adapter with a detachable cord require 1 amp.  The small print on the adapter will confirm a 1 amp 5 volt output.  The 0.5 amp provided by that USB port is not enough to power the Roku reliably.  It may start up and seem to work but will annoyingly tend to drop out of channels you are viewing and return to the home page repeatedly.

I don't know if the adapters currently being provided can be used with 240 vac service.  Again, check the small print on the adapter.  If it is only rated for 120 vac, you may have a 240 vac USB adaptor from another device you can use -- just be sure its output is at least 1 amp.

When I look at the sockets, the sockets here are 250V 16A, but the sockets here are 50Hz but 60Hz, Hz in America, is it a problem, can the Roku product work with 50Hz smoothly? I wonder if you have any information about Hz @makaiguy

The Roku itself, like all USB-powered devices, works on 5 volt direct (i.e. not alternating) current.

The USB power adapter converts your 120 or 240 volt alternating current to 5 volts direct current.  I don't think 50 versus 60 cps frequency on the ac input to the adapter will matter, but to be sure, once again, read the small print on the adapter to see what says it needs as an input.
