Having to reconnect to modem after turning off the TV

Usually after turning off one of the Roku TVs, I'm having to login again to the modem after the TV is turned back on. This has apparently been happening since a new modem was installed (Xfinity). Is this a Roku or Xfinity issue? Thanks.

Re: Having to reconnect to modem after turning off the TV

This is an Xfinity issue. Any network device should automatically reconnect when powered back on. I'm not really certain what you mean by "logging in" however. Devices don't log into the network, other than needing a password to connect to WiFi. And every device I know of saves the password for the next connect request.

I will say that in the past Comcast/Xfinity rented modems that only allowed a single network connection at a time. I would hope they don't do that any longer, but I can't say for certain. While I do have Xfinity, I have my own router in between the modem and my network, so my devices don't connect directly to the modem.

@CecilWallaceIt appears your 'rented' equipment is faulty which comes as little surprise since the Xfinity gateway is low quality and unreliable. I quit renting ages ago and with my own Docsis 3.1 modem and Asus WiFi 6E router, there are NEVER issues and I get 20% FASTER speeds as well..I urge you to quit renting and invest in your own equipment. BTW the device you're using is a combination modem/router rather than just a modem. I'd also recommend you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone so you can learn how many others use the same channel/band as you. The other problem with provider equipment is the default setting for channels is 'auto' which is problematic. Always best to select your own and monitor congestion with the app

Re: Having to reconnect to modem after turning off the TV

There are two good reasons to rent their modem. One is for free hardware repair or upgrades. They just upgraded mine for free and increased my speed for free. The other reason to rent is I get unlimited data for free with the rental. If I paid for unlimited data (and I exceed the limit every month) I’d pay $5 per month more. So I save $60 per year to rent, along with the money I didn’t spend to buy a modem.
