My Roku Express suddenly won't connect to the Internet, with Error Code 018, which refers to download speed. I've checked my router speed numerous times and it's both unchanged and more than enough for my Roku to function. The Roku system shows that the wireless connection is fine. I've rebooted/restarted the Roku multiple times and even unplugged it overnight, but it's still not functioning. All of my other devices are streaming/downloading, etc without problem.
We have a total of 3 roku tv's in our home and every single one of them is doing this. It keeps saying not connected and when something tries to load, the loading screen and another purple screen that says roku could not open this application just glitch together and flash on the screen. We have restarted the tvs and the wifi several times even though I know it isn't our wifi.
Hi @Joanne2
Thanks for letting us know about the issue you're experiencing.
Have you tried restarting your router? If not, try giving it a shot. To ensure the process is successful, make sure you restart your Roku Express before retrying to connect to the internet.
If still no dice, we suggest checking with your internet service provider since your Roku is detecting slow internet speed.
Please keep us posted!
All the best,
Kariza
I've restarted multiple times and it didn't help. It's definitely not an ISP/router problem, which I know because: (1) I've done multiple speed tests that show there's no speed problem; and (2) all my other devices on the same network (including a different streaming device) are working fine and indicate no ISP/network problems. This clearly is a Roku device problem.
Mine is doing the same thing. I’ve tried to contact customer support but it’s not available for my problem. I know it’s not my wifi bc I’ve run several checks and it works on my phone. I also restarted my router and my Roku.
Hi @shelbydiz
Thanks for posting here in the Community!
Please be advised that error 18 occurs when your Roku device detects slow internet speeds. We would recommend checking with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to determine what speed connection you subscribe to. You may want to consider upgrading to a faster connection.
We appreciate your understanding.
All the best,
Kariza
Mine does the same. Excellent WiFi connection but no internet even though all other computers, etc. are having no problems. I've rebooted modem, router, Roku device several times. No luck. Does this mean the device is dead?
If you are using a 2.4ghz band Express device and have Xfinity/Cox/Comcast as your ISP (internet provider) you will need to verify that the wireless Mode is set to b/g/n rather than merely g/n. These settings are obtained either through your ISP mobile app or by logging into the router admin.
Feel free to post back with more info re: router model number, ISP, Roku model number, and any other pertinent info if this does not resolve your issue or need help accessing the settings mentioned above.
