Connecting Roku to stand alone Wifi connection

I am attempting to connect my Roku, which has been set up already, to a stand alone wifi network that doesn't have access to the internet but am not having any luck. Does anyone know if this is possible? The Roku has already been set up and used on my home internet so that isn't a concern. I am attempting to use a WiFi router and the Roku to allow my kids to broadcast shows from a phone to the TV while we are camping.

If your network is running, even if not connected to the Internet, your TV should connect. It's no different than if your ISP had an outage.

Re: Connecting Roku to stand alone Wifi connection

It is a streaming stick, but I would think so as well. However, what happens is that when it fails to connect to the internet during the network setup portion it offers possible solutions and doesn't stay connected to the wifi.

Seems to only work in this manner with Roku's that have an ethernet connection to a router.  Not sure which OS update crippled this feature (pre or post Roku OS10 as affected different players with different updates), as previously you could still use the LAN network to access Roku Media Player.  Currently, appears you need to have an active internet connection or use an ethernet-capable Roku device (previously set -up on an active internet connection).  It is my understanding that the "internet check" is the culprit and not allowing full network connection if returns a "failed" condition.

Similar questions asked by user that used to use a streaming stick when visiting parents without an internet connection.

Probably the easiest manner is to use a mobile hotspot in your case (if available).
