Connect Streambar Optical Out to Digital TV Ears

I have my Roku Streambar connected to my TV using HDMI (Arc) connection.  I was hoping to use the Optical connection on the Steambar to connect to a set of Digital TV Ears.  But getting no sound.  Can someone confirm if the Optical port on the Streambar is for input only or do I have something setup wrong?

This page says it has: "Optical Input (S/PDIF Digital Audio)" and "you can connect with the HDMI and Optical input ports."  It's for older TVs that can't do an audio return through an HDMI cable.  (HDMI ARC.)

Maybe the TV has optical out and you can use that at the same time as HDMI ARC?
