I have a number of Roku devices and a Roku tv. Every time I activate an app through my Netgear router my connection is dropped except when I use my tv. However if I use my old Westell router everything works except my Roku premier device which has studder on the picture using my Britbox app but no other app. These apps are all independent subscription not through Roku.

Need to check the compatibility and what settings of the Netgear router may not be supported bu your Roku devices.

Post a list of your Roku device and RokuTV model numbers (from Settings/System/About).

Post the model numbers of the Westell and Netgear routers.  The old Westall routers really were pretty good.  Simple, cheap, and just worked; not many settings to get in the way.

What ISP (internet service provider are you using these routers with)?

Are you using a modem in addition to the router, or is your router the only equipment in place on your network?
