Roku Express 3900X Software 10.5.0 build 4208-51
I have tried everything other than getting a new cut the cord device, I love the Roku Interface, been using it for about 2-3 years now maybe longer. However over the past 2-3 months, While watching netflix on it, I constantly get poor signal or lost signal. My router and Modem are 5 feet away from each other tops. While I can't connect an Ethernet to the device, I thought about upgrading the roku to the ethernet supported setup, I just dont have space to run another ethernet to it. I use my router hardwired for other devices, and I really am not trying to run more wires. I have reset the modem and router endless amounts of time. I tried changing channels on the router which nothing changes the poor signal that the roku is receiving. Im hoping to find a solution before I purchase another device. Overall im happy with the roku, minimized ad's over a firestick,, but im leaning towards chromecast with google tv. Hoping for a solution but the annoyance is running thin. I dont rush to replace a problem, unless I have tried everything to solve the problem. This is the last stop, hopefully someone here can help. I see similar problems, with tutorials of everything I have done. Is my roku just dying?
I think you've tried just about everything. You could try checking its connection to a phone's hotspot just to see if it looks like it gets a stronger signal, but I'm not sure what that would tell you. I had a different model die where its Wi-Fi reception was just horrible. It works if it's within a few feet of the router, but it can barely receive a Wi-Fi remote from across the room. It works slightly better on some Wi-Fi channels than others, but I've given up on it. I tend to treat the Express models as disposable and use the models with Ethernet jacks whenever possible.
Yea I thought about getting the Ethernet set up version as well. I personally am trying to "cut the cord" and not having to run an Ethernet cord, as it defeats the purpose. I could run it, but then I'd have to unplug something that should have a higher priority over it than say a Roku Stick. Just a bummer, one thing I did do, was I changed the channel on my router to a different net work channel, and haven't had any drops yet. So hopefully it'll last longer. I am moving soon, and my house is going to be wired through and through with Ethernet and fiber as I have always ran pretty much off internet. Debating about the Google Stick with Chrome cast option, but I personally just like the Roku interface so much more. Its just not as bloat-y and the Roku never seems sluggish moving through the Menu. The Fire-sticks are just sooo slow and so many ad's that navigating it through is horrible in my experience. and the Remote is just atrocious.
