4K Streaming Stick Connectivity Problems

I have an old school Streaming Stick and purchased a 4k Streaming Stick in November.

I've never had a problem with network connectivity with the original Streaming Stick.

The 4K Streaming Stick disconnects from my wireless network constantly.  Per the list, my network has excellent signal strength.

I have rebooted my router, I have rebooted my 4K stick multiple times - same problem.

I'm a ready to trash this 4K stick and go back to older version.

@grahamcracker97

Thanks for the post.

Can you please provide more information about the issue you are experiencing? What specific Roku model device are you experiencing this issue with? Have you tried changing the wireless broadcast channel on the router to see if this will allow your device to connect?

With more detailed information, we will be able assist you further.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: 4K Streaming Stick Connectivity Problems

I have a steaming stick 4k Model 3820x.

Yes I tried band change.  I rebooted router, rebooted and restored the Roku.

I have an older Roku stream stick and it works fabulously thus I went and got a non 4K Roku Express.  It’s also working flawlessly.

The 4K stick was a waste of my money and time.

Re: 4K Streaming Stick Connectivity Problems

The 4K stick would connect and play but would disconnect randomly.

We have laptops, iPhones and Firesticks - none performed the way the 4K stick did.

Re: 4K Streaming Stick Connectivity Problems

I am also having this exact same issue with my streaming stick refusing to stay connected to the correct network. I have done everything you have and consider this to be beyond the reasonable troubleshooting effort. This is a major issue that is new as of a few days ago.

@grahamcracker97 and @streamstickbad

Could be a couple of network reasons for your disconnects.  Compounded if you are using an autiomatic mesh network or a single SSID named network for both bands.

First thing to do is make sure that your 5ghz band is not setup to use DFS channels under the "Wireless Settings" for your 5ghz band in your router.  If you are using DFS channels (or have this option Enabled), and also have 5ghz Wireless Channel set to "Auto", then the router may be switching between these Channels causing disconnection.  On the 5ghz band, Roku can only see and use non-DFS channels (36-48 low band, and 149-161 high band.).  Additionally you can also try lowering your bandwidth or channel width to 40mhz to see if connection stabilizes.

Additionally, if using mesh system, you will need to verify that your 2.4ghz band is properly configured since all devices not placed on/assigned to the 5ghz band will default to 2.4ghz band.  Verify that the 2.4 ghz is Enabled, the SSID is Broadcasting, Wireless Channel is set between 1 and 11 (preferably, 1, 6, or 11), your Mode/Protocol is set to b/g/n. and your Bandwidth or Channel Width is set to 20mhz.

All the above is accomplished by logging into your router via a web portal or accompanying ISP(internet provider app and looking for "Wireless Settings" or the like under the appropriate network bands.

Feel free to post back with an update or if you need more help.

Re: 4K Streaming Stick Connectivity Problems

I am having the same issues as the above mentioned. This thing is a piece of trash. This is the second roku I have owned that just magically stops working. I have trouble shot every step spoken above with ATT tech support and roku still won’t play or connect to WiFi even though it says strength is excellent. All other devices in home are working including APPLE TV JUST FINE. I am on the 2.4 network band that I created solely for the roku and it still will not play. I have unplugged and rebooted everything 20 times over and over again. I should not have to reboot my router and the device every single time I turn on the tv. This is beyond ridiculous. And the fact there is no one to speak with the trouble shoot is insane. If you make faulty products then you should at least have someone to help fix them but this is the last time I will purchase a roku product. Just ordered my second Apple TV which I’ve had my first one for 10 years and have no issues.
