Roku remote keeps turning TV on and off when I try to turn TV on.

Jump to solution

For the last month or so, the remote for my streaming stick turns the TV on and off and on and off repeatedly when I try to turn on the tv. I had thought it was the remote or stick so I bought a brand new stick with remote and it does the same thing. If I cover the IR emitter with my hand after I press the power button and until I access a channel, the issue doesnt happen. The issue doesnt happen when I turn the tv off.

the original stick and remote worked fine for a few years. The TV brand is Westinghouse.

Thanks

Hi @Scuba2321,

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community.

We appreciate you reaching out for assistance. Rest assured that we can provide you with the help you need. Since you've encountered an issue with two of your Roku 4K Streaming sticks, this can be resolved by using an HDMI accessory plugged into your TV and into your Roku Streaming stick. You can order one per device for free at this link: HDMI Extender

Just provide the required details in the link to successfully order the HDMI Extender.

We hope for the best for you.

All the best,
Kash

@JanAtheCPA Never use a TV USB port to power a Roku.  Most do not have enough power and will result in problems.

Hi, yes I have tried this. Like I mentioned, its happening with a Roku stick that had been fine for a few years as well as a brand new one (remote too).

Hey Travis,

My TV also randomly started doing this a week ago. I found this solution that seems to have done the trick for me:

Turn off HDMI-CEC in the menu. Navigate to Settings > System > Control Other Devices (CEC) and ensure you have unchecked all of the boxes. Restart your TV.

Hopefully it'll work for you as well!

Cheers,

Tk

I am having this problem as well. Just bought a brand new Roku stick for my living room Samsung TV.

I tried the steps for system settings and all it has is "1-touch".

If I use the Samsung remote to turn on the TV it works fine, but with the Roku remote, it flips out.

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. I still have to hide the remote when I turn the tv on until i go into a channel.
