Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

I have the same issue.  I have tried several remotes and nothing works.  I have changed batteries, reset the tv, powered it off and back on....nothing.  Then I went to the settings on the tv and tried to add a new remote, and it tells me to look for the pairing button...the same pairing button that the remote does not have on a Roku TCL TV.  I am very agitated at this point.

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

@Dip9, do you have a voice remote?  If not, it doesn't need to be paired, so something else is going on.

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

I'm also having this problem. I have multiple roku TVs and one of them just stopped responding to any remote when before it would respond to all of them.

It's almost as if the IR sensor just stopped working. The remotes definitely still work on the other roku TVs I have so it's not the remotes.

I was using my phone as the remote through the roku app but I had to change my internet and now can't connect that roku to my wifi to connect it to my app.

Seems like a hardware problem with the tv

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

Beware. I've bought about 5 different remotes, even remotes Roku representatives told me to buy. I called again about 6 months ago and they told me to buy ANOTHER remote so I ended up giving up and buying a new TV. It wasn't worth the aggravation.

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

I found out the problem is the IR sensor ON the tv itself.  You can buy an inexpensive replacement board and replace it yourself.  I did that and the remote worked again, but now it won't connect to the internet, but at least now I have a 55 inch computer monitor.  Great for doing PowerPoints for work!

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

Thanks @Dip9 I just took the back off the tv to figure out the part I needed and ordered one from ebay. Looks identical to the one I have so I'm hoping swapping it will be the fix.

Glad I don't have to solder anything it's just a single plug with a tiny circuit board once you get the back of the TV off.

Thanks for the help! I'll update here if I remember to and if I get it working so anyone else with this problem can find out.

Re: Remote Not Working On TCL Roku TV

Well, good news is the new infrared sensor worked! I swapped it, put it back together, plugged it in, turned it on WITH THE REMOTE!! and.... big black line going through the screen.

I mustve damaged the screen and put a little too much pressure somewhere. Theres no obvious damage like cracks or wire shorts but theres so many complex, fragile connections in these ribbon connectors that Im sure whatever I did cant be fixed. (At least not for any reasonable cost.)

Moral of the story is yes, you can swap out the IR sensor and I resolved that issue quite easily and got the remote working. But I learned a lesson to be more careful next time I'm delving into the innards of a TV. A frustrating lesson but to be fair my next solution was to just buy a new TV anyways.

Now I've got an extra IR sensor laying around in case another one goes out. Maybe I'll put it back on Ebay for someone else to fix theirs with.

Be much gentler than I was, and be sure to use a flathead to press the little tabs in on the bottom and not just press them in with your fingers and wiggle the bottom panel to get it loose.
