Remote Control Volume Sudden Increase

Pressing the down navigation arrow (and the reset button in the battery compartment) causes the volume to increase.  The volume increase does not stop unless I press the mute or decrease volume button at the side of the remote control.  This just started to occur after at least one year of daily usage. This problem occurs across two different televisions that are two different brands.  I changed the batteries, reset the remote control and unpaired/re-paired the remote control.   Any other tips for resolving the issue described above would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Having the same issue with two remotes on the same TV. I have no answers yet but hoping for some here.
