I use the Roku Mobile App often on both WiFi as well as Cellular Data. I have never encountered this issue before but beginning today when I open my Roku App to the Devices tab I receive an error that says:
”We have detected that your device is currently connected to a public IP address that is not supported. Please ensure that both your mobile phone and device have an IP address in one of the following ranges: 198.18.x.x-198.19.x.x or 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x or 100.64.x.x-100.127.x.x or 10.x.x.x”
Again to reiterate; There is nothing any different about my iPhone, Apps, Services, VPNs, etc; so on and so forth, to the best of my knowledge. I have never encountered this error before.
I used the App yesterday and it was fine. Today I received this error. I took a screenshot that I can share with anyone over private messages because it is larger than 3mb.
What IP addresses do they have? On the Roku: Settings > Network > About. (I don't know iphones.)
I don’t know. I’m not the most tech savvy of people. It does seem though that if I acknowledge the error then I can still continue to use the App so it may be incorrectly displaying the error. Again though if the error is indeed valid I do not understand why there would be any issue with my IP now if there hasn’t been before because I have made no changes to anything related to the topic. Zero.
This morning it seems the error has ceased to appear. There still haven’t been any changes on my part. I’ve been on vacation for a week now, at home it worked fine, during vacation it’s worked fine, then suddenly during vacation it began giving me this error. I can’t explain why it is that my IP address would change in any way. I would still be interested in any feedback about this issue.
I would suggest recording the IP addresses of the Roku and phone when all is well and then comparing them if/when something goes wrong. There are lots of ways for various IP addresses to change and you just mentioned another possibility - vacation. That could mean: I'm on vacation, so won't be able to check this for a while. Or it could mean: I'm carrying this stuff with me on vacation. If the latter, the nature of vacationing may add more variables.
You misunderstood. I’m not carrying anything at all. I’m talking about the Roku Mobile App. Not a Roku Device.
