ROKU Express is using static ip

Jump to solution

Hi - just tried installing a Roku Express 3960x and can't connect to the internet. I checked on my routers hub manager console and is says the Roku Express is using a static ip address assigned by the device, which is in the wrong range (subnet mask?).

Can I get the device (Roku Express) to use DHCP instead?

Or any other ideas why I may be getting this problem please?

Thanks

Hi - it's resolved now. I reset everything and it is now picking up 5MHz using DHCP.

Just for general information, Roku devices are not capable of being assigned a static IP. My guess is the Roku for some reason wasn't able to negotiate with the DHCP server, so it assigned itself one of the 169.x.x.x manual addresses, which all IP devices will do when they can't get a DHCP address. It started working when DHCP communication was restored/resolved. Why it happened? No idea.
