Our old, original Roku device simply fails every day when watching YouTube. It has to be unplugged and re-started at least once an evening. Not usable anymore, so I'm buying a new one of the most basic model: Roku Express.
But I need to know if this device will come with the kind of remote control that does not need a line-of-sight to the device? After our original remote failed several years ago, we got the only replacement we could get from Amazon, which was infra-red (IR for us geeks), and one has to point it directly at the device, and the device has to be angled in exactly the right way for it to work. Very annoying and shoddy design, as I'm sure the legion of Roku-IR-Replacement-Remote Sufferers (RIRRRS) will agree.
The original remote, however, worked even when the device was placed behind the TV, out of sight. I could operate it without even lifting it from the sofa. It must have worked on either RF (radio frequency) or Bluetooth.
Does the new Roku Express have the RF/Bluetooth remote?
If "No, it's an IR," do any Roku devices have the non-IR remotes?
I can't find any mention of the topic on their website, which is highly suspicious.
