Connecting my roku without a remote using the app for the first time.

Jump to solution

Hey! I could some assistance. My roku app won’t connect to my device and I do not have the roku’s IP address. Just the SN and the other info on the little roku machine.

Is there any way I can connect to the device using the SN???

Abolutely nothing can be done without initially having a working real remote. A roku doesn't get IP address until it has internet, which it doesn't have without a roku remote. Just like your tv won't work without a remote.

Fair question since the Roku app claims to work as a remote. TVs have buttons, and can be made to work without a remote; apparently Roku devices need an actual remote for the initial Wi-Fi set up.
