Can’t get to the home menu. Brand new Roku express

Hi.

we bought a Roku express yesterday and I can’t get past the “let’s get started” screen. I put my WiFi password in and it connects. It then says there is a software update, installs it and reboots back to the “let’s get started” page and does the same thing over and over again.

any suggestions?

A couple of different things seem to help in this situation.

1. If you are currently using the TV USB port for power, try using a charging adapter at the wall outlet instead. (any 5volt, 1amp cell phone charging adapter should work).

2. If still a no-go and the issue isn't power related, try using a mobile hotspot (if available to you) to get past the setup and activation screens instead of your regular network wifi.

If using the mobile hotspot also didn't work, then I would try another power adapter. (it may be that the adapter you tried to use does not meet the 5 volt, 1 amp specs required to power the device).

Otherwise, I think i would return the device. (could be defective).
