Are there any plans to let customers customize their remote buttons?

I only use a few apps and I'd really like to customize my buttons to them if possible

Sorry, no.  Those direct-to-channel buttons have been paid for by the owners of those channels, and they are hard-coded into the remote.   Different batches of remotes may have a different collection of channel buttons, but they are all hard-coded.

In addition to the standard channel buttons, the Voice Remote Pro has two more buttons that can be programmed to issue standard voice commands such as "Load [channel name of your preference]".

Voice Remote Pro (2nd Edition) has instead a key with a rocket on it which brings up a menu of 4 choices.  At least two of them can be set to issue voice commands of your choice.
