I was wondering why Roku hasn’t made the Roku Ultra 1080P 120FPS 120Hz refresh rate?

I use Unifab Smoother AI to convert my MP4 movies and shows, but I can only convert to a maximum of 47.952FPS double from the standard 23.976FPS because Roku Ultra only supports 60FPS. Converting past 60FPS makes the movies and shows a little funny-looking. I would like to convert my movies and shows to 95.904FPS and 71.928FPS.

Is there a future release of the Roku Ultra that supports 1080P - 120FPS - 120Hz refresh rate?

Just a heads-up that the Roku Ultra is not yet available with support for 1080P at 120FPS and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Current-generation Roku streaming players are designed to output all content at a display refresh rate of 60fps. If you prefer, your Roku player can be configured to output the native format of each movie, video, or TV show by enabling the auto-adjust display refresh rate setting, if available.

• Note: The auto-adjust display refresh rate setting may not apply to content from specific channels.

Roku's HDMI 2.0b ports are limited in bandwidth and can only handle a sad little 60hz.

One of a dozen reasons I'm excited to have ordered an Nvidia Shield earlier after listing my Ultra's for sale... 120hz with HDR 10, all latest codecs, plus chromecast support, not just miracast like a cheap device, and bluetooth device support for keyboards, headphones, remotes, controllers, etc.

Yes, it's limited at 1080p (at 120hz), but that's majority of the content.

But does it also output 120FPS as well or just 120Hz? I prefer Roku but I'm guessing they are not innovative. From a Scientific standpoint anything above 1080P is useless to the human eye @ 3ft and more away from the screen.

120hz means the screen refreshes 120 times per second. 120fps means the video has 120 pictures per second.

A device can refresh at 120hz but still show a lower fps video by repeating pictures.

FPS relies on the content to have been made with 120 frames. Video, games, whatever it is needs to be native 120fps.

As long as the display supports it and the media (games, video) does too, the Shield can output 120hz/FPS content at 1080.

That HDMI 2.0b bottleneck keeps it from being 4k too.

But per resolution, even past 3 feet, higher resolutions like 1440p and 4K still give sharper images, cleaner edges, and less aliasing, especially on larger screens.

Your eyes don’t suddenly lose all ability to notice detail at that distance.

Also, higher resolution reduces things like shimmering and moiré effects in motion, which is noticeable no matter how far you sit. That annoying myth from reddit and youtube oversimplifies how human vision and screen size interact. 1080p isn’t a magic cutoff.

I've personally been really into collecting 4K HDR 10 / Dolby 7.1 and the difference is incredible as long as the display supports it, as long as there are no bottlenecks. You can just browse the isles of an entertainment section and see the difference haha

Here's a useful chart for screen size vs viewing distance vs resolution. My family room TV is 12-13 feet away, so 4K has some benefit as screen sizes get above about 115". However, sitting here around 2ft from my 30" computer monitor, 4K is very noticeably better than 1080P, just as the chart shows.
