two days ago sound stopped syncing with lips of people speaking - what changed about 11 oct 21?

just recently noticed starting about mon 11 oct 21 that sound is not in sync with lips  of people talking

this is beyond annoying it makes it impossible to watch the show 

clearly roku did something that fixed some problem but created a worse problem

so what did roku do to mess up the sound sync and why

how do we get them to undo that 'fix' and get things working correctly again

 

most of the time it seems to be about 50-100ms off but occasionally it might be more

hard to measure so that is an estimate

Does this happen on all channels, or just a certain one?

If just one, see if reloading the channel fixes it. Here's how:

  1. Highlight channel on home screen.
  2. Press * key on the Roku remote and choose Remove channel option. [Note: If this channel is one for which you have a paid subscription through Roku, there will be a "Manage subscription" option instead. Click this and cancel your subscription. (It will continue to run for the rest of the prepaid subscription period, but will not auto-renew at that point. You can resubscribe then if you like.) Now the "Remove channel" option will be shown.]  This will remove the channel from ALL Rokus linked to this Roku account.
  3. IMPORTANT- IF YOU SKIP THIS STEP YOU MAY NOT GET A CLEAN RE-INSTALL:
    Restart the Roku to clear its memory via Settings > System > System restart. (On a Roku TV, this is Settings > System > Power > System restart.) Repeat on any additional Rokus linked to this Roku account.
  4. Reinstall the channel to your Roku account via the Roku Home page Streaming Channels menu option. This will install the channel on all Rokus linked to this Roku account.
    Notes:
      The channel will be will be added to the END of each Roku's channel grid.
      On other Rokus linked to this Roku account you may need to force an update to   get immediate installation: Settings > System > System update. 
  5. If channel requires a login, you may need to log in anew.

If the problem occurs on many channels, see if a restart of the Roku fixes it.  Use Roku menu path Settings > System > System restart (Or for Roku TV: Settings > System > Power > System restart - just turning the tv off/on doesn't give a full restart)

i will try the reset and see what happens

the problem occurs on all channels of directtvstream which is all i watch with roku

happened  suddenly but does not get fixed with normal things that  help with other sound issues

As a troubleshooting step, you might try looking at some other channel apps besides directvstream just to see if they are affected also.  If directvstream is only channel app with the problem, that's what I meant in my first post -- try the steps I gave for reinstalling directvstream.

thanks for the helpful suggestion

just  tried the restart

that made it much better

seems to  still be just a tiny bit off with the lip sync vs audio

but at least it is tolerable to watch

any idea what the problem was and why restart fixes things ?

all the other audio problems got fixed by switching channels and then returning to the one I was at first

ps

if I have to mess with channels being removed and reinstalled then I will just switch to another service

this was a good deal when it started with atttvnow 

but with the price increases and hassles with roku it is on the edge of being something that will be replaced

for the business model to succeed it needs both att and roku to deliver without all the hassles i have had

roku by itself it not worth anything to me and now atttvnow being directstream their problems and price increases are making them questionable

it happens on all channels at some time

usually i forward arrow (right) and then back arrow (left) and that fixes it asap

on occasion i have to do a total restart
