Solving playback issues

I have roku ultras for both TVs and neither will play videos. There are a few videos--very few that will play.The screen is black. When I click up the channel icon shows and I can navigate to the channel screen. More shows and i used it to report this on a few videos.  The arrow key on the remote does not advance the videos.  On both devices:

I have checked for roku updates

I have rebooted roku

I have uninstalled and reloaded Youtube

I have waited to see if the problem goes away

Is anyone else having this problem?

Addition: The videos that played were on the channel " Candy Music Room" I couldn't find any others that played.

Yes, this started happening to me on the evening of March 8.  Videos that were in my history and partway played still work, but any new video I try to start up just goes to a black screen and doesn't start up.

I'm having the same problem with a different device, the 1st Gen Premier +.  Bone all the usual trouble shooting steps but no change.  I can cast the videos that won't play from my laptop but that'e a PITA.  This isn't a device issue. It's a Roku or YouTube glitch.  Hope the Roku engineers spot this thread!

We watch 90% YT on our ROKU Ultra. This issue basically renders ROKU useless to us. We bought it in the new year. If they don't fix it, they'll be getting it back. Everyone I know in my locale uses ROKU for the same things. I'm wondering...has YouTube struck again with their obsessions for kontrol?

Me too, 80% YT and 20% news, (much of that on Locast) so, until this issue is resolved, my Roku not much good to me.  In Roku's defence, I've been a user for at least 7 years and this is my first disappointment.

Oddly enough, if I sign out of my account on youtube I can play videos but the issue always exists when I'm logged in.  Makes me wonder if it's something to do with the adserver that youtube runs because the video does come up but it's just stuck at 0:00 without any playback options.

Same here on both Ultra and stick. But, if I log out of YT and use guest, same videos that previously did not play, will . Log back in to YT and get same black screen. Laptop has no problems. There's some glitch while logged in to YT only on a ROKU.

This fixed it for me:

1. In the youtube channel, sign out of your account. Or, you can uninstall/reinstall the channel.

2. Now sign in to youtube. Use the "sign in with your phone" option.

3. Start up youtube on your phone. In a few seconds Roku will spot it and creae your account. 

4. It should be fixed!

It looks like Youtube has a one time survey that's getting displayed, and the Roku channel can't handle it. This works around it.

This didn't work for me.  Linked it via phone and still same issue while using my Roku Ultra.  Both the 2018 and 2020 models are unable to play youtube videos while I'm signed into my youtube account.
