Ok, my new RCA tv was doing great on antenna and my wife decides to install a roku streaming stick and we have a problem. If I plug the Roku HDMI in and then plug the USB in, as soon as the USB goes in, the tv goes off instantly. But if I connect the USB first then plug in the HDMI last, I have no problem. What can cause this? thanks for any help
Are you using a USB port on the TV to power the Stick? If so, the TV likely doesn't supply sufficient power on that USB port (very common with some TVs). You should use the power cube that came with the Stick for power.
The thing I don't understand is, if I hook up the USB first then the HDMI, the tv does ok. The reason I don't use the electric outlet is the cord won't reach. So tomorrow I am gonna go and take this stick roku back and exchange it for the box roku, it has longer cords that will let me use an outlet. thanks
If your TV was an Italian or British car, then I would say it has "character". But like @atc98092 said, using the AC power adapter is the recommended way anyway.
Well, you can just use an HDMI extender cable and move your Roku Stick further away from the TV. When I traveled with a Stick I also carried a cable with me for that exact reason, to reach the power easier. The nice thing about the Stick is it uses a WiFi Direct remote, so you don't need line of sight to use it. Unless you get an Express 4K+ or Ultra, a new Roku will come with an IR remote.
As to way it works when connected in a particular sequence, sometimes that's just the way it is with electronic devices. It might have a spike in power demand the TV can't meet when connected that way.
You could also just use an extension cord.
I went today and exchanged for the 4k express, it comes with a HDMI cable that will fit in the #1 HDMI spot, the way the back of the tv is made the stick had a hard time fitting well, the express also has a longer USB cord so I can get to the outlet good. It has been working good and no problems so far. Thanks for all the help.
I use an Express 4K+ when I travel, and so far it's worked flawlessly. I don't have 10.5 on it yet, but overall I usually don't have issues with OS updates.
