ROKU model: 3900x. never showed any symptoms for like a year and half that I used it but suddenly one day it doesn't turn on. there is no light, no connection/video when I plug in the HDMI either. To double check, I plugged in a usb from a windows laptop to see if the light comes on, but nothing happened to the roku. However, a message popped on the laptop saying there is a "power surge detected" on the port. Also, even though Macbooks don't give out more than 500ma to non-apple devices, I decided to plug in the roku for power aswell. Similarly, nothing really happened, the macbook gave an urgent message saying that the "accessory connected is using too much power". I tried the reset button in the back but no avail.
At this point, I was really wondering if it needs less power, but its made for 1a minimum. This problem has been bugging me for a while and I could use some help, thanks 🙂
Hi @yoloo,
Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!
Please try to connect to a power outlet in the wall using the USB power adapter that came with the Roku. In addition, have you tried using another HDMI port on your TV as well as trying your device on another TV to see if you are seeing the same issue?
To help troubleshoot the issue further, follow this link: What should I do if my Roku® streaming player will not power on? | Official Roku Support
Please try doing this and see if it helps with what you're experiencing.

Mary
Hi
I've tried about everything. Plugging in and out, using the original power plug that came with the roku and using a different hdmi cord as well. Nothing works. There is no light indication or anything so.
I think that thing is just dead. If it's still under warranty try getting it replaced. If not, trash it.
